It is with great pleasure that I invite you to the 2017 Princeton Model United Nations Conference (PMUNC), which will be held November 16-19, 2017.
PMUNC is hosted by Princeton University’s International Relations Council, a subsidiary of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society - the oldest collegiate political, literary, and debating society in the United States and still the largest student-run extracurricular body at Princeton. Since its creation, PMUNC’s main goal has been to engage high school students in issues currently debated on the international stage, to teach diplomacy by asking hard questions, to foster serious discussion, and ultimately to further the skills required to reach a compromise and build a consensus. Often, this is not easy since our committees and their topics are designed to demonstrate the difficulty of international cooperation, particularly within the sometimes strict framework of the United Nations.
While we are continually making changes and improvements to our conference, the one thing that will never change is the high degree of personal attention each delegate receives at PMUNC. All of our committees are kept reasonably small so that our delegates and staff get the opportunity to know one another and every delegate has sufficient time to discuss the topics at hand frankly and thoroughly.
We have also arranged for both you and your delegates to visit the Princeton campus before committee session begins on Friday. During this visit, delegates will be able to talk to current Princeton students, tour the campus as well as the historic town of Princeton, attend admissions information sessions, and generally get a taste of the Princeton experience.
PMUNC is staffed entirely by Princeton undergraduates who represent a range of interests and disciplines, from anthropology and politics to economics, math, and even mechanical engineering. Our staff members originate from five continents and speak enough languages to hold their own against the most capable interpreters at the United Nations itself.
On behalf of the Secretariat of PMUNC 2017 and our entire staff, I hope you can join us in November. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Chargé d’Affaires via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. In addition, keep checking our website as we continue to post more detailed information about the Conference.
I look forward to meeting all of you at PMUNC 2017!
